About COVID-19
COVID-19 is a disease caused by the coronavirus previously known as 2019-nCoV. Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that can cause illness ranging from the common cold, to more serious lung infections like pneumonia. In 2019, a new coronavirus strain was identified in Wuhan, China. This strain can now spread from humans to humans. Evidence so far shows that it spreads by droplets. The disease caused by this virus is called COVID-19, and its symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. COVID stands for ‘coronavirus disease’, and the number 19 refers to the year 2019 when the disease was identified.
Coronavirus
Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that cause a number of diseases in humans. The coronavirus that causes the disease known as COVID-19 is one of many coronaviruses. It is commonly referred to as ‘the coronavirus’ or ‘the novel coronavirus’ in the context of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. The specific coronavirus that causes COVID-19 was initially named 2019-nCoV and is now named SARS-CoV-2; however, this name is not widely used to avoid potential confusion with the separate SARS virus among the general public.
Pandemic
A pandemic occurs when an infectious disease spreads across several regions in the world, affecting large numbers of people. The World Health Organisation declared COVID-19 a pandemic on 11 March 2020.
