Each session emphasises one major field of authoring and publishing, and teaches participants how to transit into a full-time career author and self-publisher. Self-Publishing

You’ve got your manuscript perfected and ready to go — where? Publishing, like so many other traditional industries, has been revolutionised by the evolution of newer technologies. But is self-publishing necessarily the best way to get your work out there? And should self-publishing only be an alternative to conventional methods? And what is considered convention in this age?

Self-publishing is a powerful tool that is particularly beneficial to independent and first-time authors. Channels like Amazon and independent publishing networks offer just about anyone the opportunity to publish their work and grow their potential audiences to a staggering number.

This writing class looks at the steps required to self-publish on Amazon, and examines how ISBN acquisition in Singapore can not only grow your career as an author, but also create valuable IP assets that add to your bottomline.

Characters

Most characters start out flat and lifeless, like the pages they inhabit. How do you breathe pure life into a figment of your imagination so that it grows and evolves to become a real person? When does a fictional character stop being made of words and paper, and starts to become a thought, an idea, a personality? All great authors, in their own diverse styles, are apt at playing God to their universes and the people that inhabit them.

Creating characters that move off the page and into people’s minds requires asking key questions of inventions — placing them in situations that they are uncomfortable with and seeing how their personalities evolve in times of happiness and trouble. In other words, the character begins in your mind but comes to life in your readers’ imaginations.

This writing class analyses the development of real, complete characters in both fiction and non-fiction, who are capable of blurring the lines between this universe and the ones growing within each of our minds. We will explore these universes and discover the relationships we need to create so that we truly get to know the people whom we’ve given life to.
